Mental Health Services for Westboro Residents

Authentic Care, Just Down the Road

Westboro is one of Ottawa's most vibrant neighbourhoods. It's got the coffee shops, the yoga studios, and the walkable village lifestyle. But it can also feel like a fishbowl. When you are struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, or just the weight of expectations, sometimes you need to step outside your neighbourhood to let your guard down truly.

At Rippeyoung & Associates, we offer a refreshing alternative to the "wellness clinic" vibe. We are located in the West End of Nepean (on Morrison Drive), a quick, easy drive from Westboro, but just far enough away to offer you true privacy and a fresh perspective.

We aren't "stuffed shirts" or clinical academics. We are a team of real people, musicians, former corporate pros, and parents who are highly trained mental health professionals.

Why Westboro Clients Choose Our Nepean Practice

  • Escape the "Village" Fishbowl. In Westboro, you run into your neighbours at the grocery store and your barista at the park. Therapy requires a space where you don't have to worry about bumping into someone you know in the waiting room. Our Nepean office offers a discreet haven where you can be anonymous and focus entirely on yourself.
  • Real People, Not Clinical Robots You value authenticity. So do we. We don't do the "clinical cold" stare. Therapy should feel like a human conversation. Whether you are an artist, a professional, or a parent, you'll find our team is approachable, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to.
  • Conveniently Close We are just a straight shot west down the 417 or Carling Avenue. It's close enough to fit into your lunch break or evening routine, but separate enough to feel like a true break from your daily environment.

Our Approach: Real Tools for Real Life

We don't believe in "cookie-cutter" therapy. We use evidence-based tools tailored to the specific pressures you are facing.

  • Anxiety & High-Functioning Stress: Westboro is full of high achievers, and often, anxiety hides behind a busy schedule. We move beyond simple stress management.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT):  we help you identify triggers and change how you relate to anxious thoughts, helping you find calm without losing your edge.
  • Depression & Motivation: When the charm of the neighbourhood fades, and you feel stuck or disconnected, we are here. We help you identify the root causes of your depression and use practical skills to manage negative thinking, helping you reconnect with the things that actually bring you joy.
  • Trauma & PTSD: Trauma can leave you feeling stuck in the past. Our team includes therapists trained in EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches to help you process painful memories and regain a sense of safety.

We know that finding a therapist is like dating; you need chemistry. We want to save you the expense and frustration of a wrong first appointment. We encourage you to reach out, ask questions, and get a feel for our vibe before you commit. We want to ensure you are matched with the person who fits your personality best.

Meet the Team

We are led by Matthew Rippeyoung, the practice's Psychologist, and supported by a diverse team of Registered Psychotherapists who bring their own lived lives into the room.

  • Geoff Taylor: A former touring musician and audio engineer, Geoff is the antithesis of the "clinical" therapist. He brings a creative, collaborative spirit that resonates well with Westboro's creative community.
  • Esteban Rivera: Esteban brings honesty and humility. He brings over a decade of personal experience as a client himself, so he understands exactly how much courage it takes to sit in the chair.
  • Vanessa Cardinal: Vanessa believes that even in therapy, there is room for humour. She helps you untangle old patterns and find your ground, balancing the hard stuff with the hopeful stuff.
  • Leily Shafaee Millward: With a background in PR, Leily understands the noise of modern life. She creates a space built on trust where you can finally feel truly heard.
